Hard drive not recognized by disk managment

I installed an old primary hd as a slave in my computer. It is seen by bios and device manager. but does not show up in disk managment.

You may have to format the HD(It can be done in Windows).

Have you looked in disk management (run diskmgmt.msc - assuming xp or 2k) - if it has partition(s) on it, sometimes they don't get assigned drive letters - you can do that here. Or if no partitions, you can create one or more.
