I have a 300mhz computer and everytime I go to boot up the computer doesn't boot, it just sits there and the hd light stays red. No movement what so ever, the ide cables are installed properly and so is the jumpers. There is power to the hd. Sometimes when I shake the computer or take the hard drive out and put it back in it boots. Does anyone know what the matter is with the hd? Or is it the Hd?

Feel the hard drive to see if it is spinning when it hangs up. Failure to spin is a common failure. Bumping is one way of freeing a sticking drive up but will lead to earlier faiure than rotating in direction plates would move and stopping suddenly with heel of hand.
This problem progressively gets worse until it never starts. So be prepared. Ed Fair

I HAVE REPLACED THE HARD DRIVE ON THAT COMPUTER AND IT STILL DOESN't BOOT?
