my mother has a 486 half gig hard drive that was compressed usuing windows drivespace and it crashed in the last storm we had , she has no emer disk her a drive wasn't working I have the restore disk but it won't format because the command.com is missing and the hard drive is compressed can anyone help please help !!!!!

do you have access to another computer? Does this computer have win95/95 installed on it? if so then the easiest way is to make a boot disk from this machine and use it to boot the computer. From what I recall, it should not matter that the drive is compressed to format it. This only matters if you want to try and retrieve any data that was stored on it, becuase you have to have the drivespace driver loaded before windows will recognize the contents of the drive.

if you need you email access I can seend you a zipped copy of a win98 boot disk (sorry but I don't have access to a win95 boot disk anymore) and all you would have to do is unzip the contents to a floppy then boot with it.

fenris
fenris@hotmail.com

Yikes. A windows 98 start up disk will work okay to get you to where yo want to go. Then c:\format \s and reload the system.
