Hard Drive Image , Hard Drive Clone

Has anyone got a method/ free utility for zipping up a hard drives and copying the image to a network drive.?
(I am basically too tight to go out and buy a corporate edition of Norton Ghost.)

I have tried using a flopy disk that will boot and connect to a network drive. Then use PKzip (2.5) to zip up contents of drive and copy to a network drive. It will pick up all of the hidden and system files. However it will not use long file names.

The directory "C:\program files" does get zipped but it restores as "c:\progra~1". Shortcuts no longer operate.

Any ideas?

Are you using the DOS version of PKZip2.5 or the Windows version? The Windows version saves long file names.

When I want large folders/files on another drive, I zip them first on the source drive [space permitting] then transfer the single file [DOS 8.3 name], preserves the file names/paths.

I prefer WinZip but got PKZip for Windows a couple of days ago to try its ability to create .exe files that could be run in DOS. WinZip .exe files require Windows.
