I sure hope some one can help me. I've been tring to install a new hard drive on my pc (single drive), the problem began after I connected the hard drive but it would not boot to my disk drive (either one). I set the boot sequence on the Bios to boot from my disk drive, but it would not. Then in desperation I changed the the PCI Bios setting to "on board" and now I can't even get the bios to come. What can I do?

Some one please help!

Martha

Can you post more information on your PC. Like make/model/hard drive details/hard drive connection details etc. Also what operating system are you useing?

What happens if you put the hardware back where it was before you started? Can you get into the BIOS then and put that back to the settings it had before? If so, will it then boot?

it would not boot to my disk drive (either one
Double check, after attempting what stduc recommended, each hard drive's jumper settings. If they are both on the same cable one (the original boot disk) must be master, and the new one as a slave. Also they must be attached on the correct point on the cable, master on the end, salve on the middle.

If the new drive is on the secondary IDE channel aslo double check jumpering of the connected devices on that cable, same convention.

On Board what? Video? Do you have both a onboard video adapter and a separate video card? If so, try moving the video cable to the onboard video adapter.

I had someone put it together for me a few years back. This is what I know: It has a ASUS motherboard, OS: Windows XP, new HD is Seagate, Barracuda 7200.8 200 Gbytes, model 8T3200826A: old HD #1 is Western Digital, enhanced IDE, model WD200, old drive #2 Western Digital WD300. Used the #1 as my C: and the #2 as the D:. I tried to re-install the old drive but it still does nothing.

How can I change the PCI Bios back from "on board" to the default. Since I chanaged that I get nothing on the my screen. Is there a function key anything?

Thanks
Martha

Concerning the jumpers: I set the new HD as the master and the disk drive are set as follows: CRW: 2nd from the left (SL) and the DVD is set on the 3rd from the left (MA) and the HD is set on 1st set of pins from the left.

Thanks so much!
Martha

I did have a video card, but a computer tech removed it when I got a new monitor. Maybe that's why I can't see anything on the monitor now - it's pointing to the video card that has been removed??? What do I do now?

Can you clarify the setting "on board"? On board what?

Also, can you gives us the ASUS motherboard type? It should be silk-screened on the motherboard somewhere.

I suspect you will have to reset (clear) BIOS CMOS which is why I am asking you the model of the ASUS board. If we have that, we can direct you on how to reset CMOS.

I set the new HD as the master
I did not understand the rest of your post as to where & how they are attached.
and the HD is set on 1st set of pins from the left.
If this references your new HD and the center connector on the cable. This is one problem, as the center connector must have a device set as slave. Also, If the other drive at the end of this cable is also set as master then this is another conflict.

As Freestone has requested, provide the mobo mdl# for guidance as to how to reset your BIOS. Having disabled the "onboard video" I assume is why you are not able to see anything.

After that, remove the new drive leaving all else as it was originally, You should be able to boot as before.

When this is so....Re-jumper the new drive as a slave , turn the PC off, then attach the new drive to the center connector and boot into bios....check thaqt the drive is recognised by BIOS first. Reboot to the desk top, and from there you might have to format the drive before it appears in "mycomputer"

Waiting for the motherboard model#

The model number for the AUSUS is CUSL2-C.

The Disk drives have a three pin settings (e.g. : : :) represented from left to right by 1 2 3. Once I get the monitor working how exactly should the jumpers be set for the new hard drive, dvd drive and crw drive?

Thanks
Martha

Post back with mfg & mdl info for each hard drive
