I had this Maxtor 20 GB master hard drive for about 6 months and suddenly one day when I started a computer, it said that hard drive is in the setup but is not responding. I think it is spinning, however, after I put it in as a slave, it is not detected in My Computer at all. It simply does not see it. When I ran the Maxtor diagnostic tool, it gave me two failures: Drive Recall Test Failure and Smart Disable Function Failure. Error numbers were UKOEO2 and RO3. If any one knows what to do in this case or whether the drive at all will be recoverable, PLEASE PLEASE HELP!! I am really desparate because I have a lot of things on it.

On my previoius drive, I had the same problem, but after putting it as a slave, I was able to copy all the info...Not on this one so far...

I am not very technical; so if you give advice, could you go into step by step details???

sounds like to me the hd is not working u might have to replace it with one that is compatible..what pc system do u have?

Find out if it really spins up. Listen carefully to determine if it also
executes its servo calibration routine. If it does all this and makes no
other strange noises (scratching, squieking, whatever) but fails
afterwards the mechanics is possibly all right. In this case get a
screwdriver, unscrew the electronics, clean the contacts, put together
again. Still doesn't work? Get on ebay, find same drive model (exactly:
same type number!), buy it. Compare circuit boards. Should be identical.
Replace board with new one. Try again. If it works, save data to backup
media. Wipe drive, remount broken electronics and RMA drive if
applicable. If it does not work, I would not go any further. Without clean
room do not try to open the mechanics under any circumstances if you
want your data. Send it in to data recovery service (google).

Thanks so much for the replies. I will try to do what you have told me. The drive does seem to work, so may be I still have some hope. I will let you know of the results.
Thanks so much for help again!!! I will keep in touch.
