hard drive error help

hi i just built a 1500 xp on an msi motherboard i transfered my old hard drive to it reformated and reinstalled windows me i didnt put any partitions in it but in my computer it says theres a c drive and a d drive its a 20 gig hard drive that came with my old packard bell only a few yrs old now if you can help thanx

in your computer as in windows or dos, if windows can you access the d drive and store information on it?
 
It does sound like somehow you have created more than one partition.
Boot the system with a Windows Boot floppy in the drive, at the flashing 'a' prompt type fdisk then sellect number 4? to check hard disk partitions.
You should only see one partition the full size of the harddrive.
If at this point you see two partitions and only want one you can start again, delete primary and extended partitions, then create just primary dos partion.
YOU WILL HOWEVER loose all data on the drive and afterwards the drive will again need formatting before windows installation. Martin Please let members know if there advice has helped any.
