Hello All;

Could anyone recommend a good hard drive doctor program that would be able to scan for any general errors as well as bad sectors. I have noticed a large decrease in performance of my pc recently, and I am trying to isolate the problem. I am currently running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002.

Thank you;

Sean. [peace]

Get the one from the drive manufacturer.

Hi Edfair;

I tried you advice and went to the Western Digital homepage ( They did have a software section but none that would check for the existence of bad sectors or general hard drive faults.

Does anyone perhaps know of a general freeware or trial program that I could use to test my drive?

Thank you for any and all help or support;

checkdisk - full with surface scan. It's part of your operating system, you can't get much "freeer" than that. Is "SMARTDRIVE" turned on in BIOS?

try drive fitness tools from IBM. it helped me twice with seagate drives that were slowing down systems,but the seatools said they were ok. DFT said slow system performance contact drive manu...both drives were replaced and no problem since.
