What are some of the ways you can tell if your hard drive is going out.

Run a Thorough scandisk for bad sectors regularly

if availible turn on S.M.A.R.T in the bios, it does a HD intergrity scan on start up.

There may be some other diagnostic tools on google you can find as well.

I lay claim to nothing and everything. My words may be wisdom or disaster. In the end you make a choice. Noone is perfect.

Download & run the manufacturer's diagnostics.
Slowing down beyond what defrag can clean.
Hearing the drive reseeking regularly.
Clicks and thunks at any time, squealing at any time.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

aida32 is a nice program which will read the s.m.a.r.t data off your drive.
