I have a harddrive with 22 position plug connector. how can use it as an enclosure.

My computer died on me and I need some files in the harddrive. I just bought a 2.5" usb external enclosure and the connectors on it are different. My harddrive has a 22 position plug. What should i do?

Buy the right enclosure.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I don't knwo which one to buy. The one that i got hs sharp pins and my hard drive has this flat connector.

Give the make and exact model number for the hard drive, then we might be able to help you...

I believe you will need a 3.5" enclosure. 2.5" is for laptop drives. Again, drive specs (brand, model) would be necessary.

Just thinking about the 22-pin connection... I guess this might refer to a 2.5" IDE (laptop) drive. They actually have TWO rows of 22-pins (44 in all), although to be absolutely correct one pin in the middle is missing so it acts as a keyway.

A further guess would be that you've bought an external USB enclosure for a SATA drive, which might not be what you need. Check this picture out:-

The SATA connector is the drive on the left and the IDE is on the smaller drive to the right. The SATA picture is of a 3.5" drive, but a SATA 2.5" laptop version has an identical connector. The IDE drive is a 2.5" laptop drive.

Hope that helps...

Okay, her eis the info.

I have a segate momentus 5400.2 2.5" hardrive model: st9100824as

IT had this other connector that you stick in

Please help me get my files back and how. THanks!

It is a 7 pin SATA Drive. The adapter your talking about convertd it to a ATA drive connector.

Specs: Compatibility: PC; Connector type: 7 pin Serial ATA; Hard drive size: 100 GB; Interface type: Serial ATA-150; Form factor: 2.5" x 1/8H; Buffer size: 8 MB; Average seek time: 12.5 ms; Spindle speed: 5400 rpm

Your drive is a 2.5inch Seagate Momentus with SATA 150 interface.
So you need a 2.5inch external enclosure with SATA to USB like this one:

my heart it feels a broken beat
Touched soul and hurt lay wounded deep
Brown eyes are lost afar and sleep

Thanks for the help. I just ordered the one paparazi listed. I hope it works.
