Hello,

Suddeenly last week my computer began to say "Reboot to proper boot disk or insert boot media". I tried everything but could not get it to "see" my hard drive. I am running Win 2000, and the computer is almost 2 years old. I bought and installed a new hard drive (and made it the master) thinking perhaps the old one was just bad. After completely re-installing a new OS on the new one, as soon as I left the computer again I get the exact same error! The computer seems confused and doesnt know where to get boot files. When I try to boot with DOS disk it says "There is no hard drive to load."

HELP!:)

Sounds like you may have lost the drive identification in CMOS. Possibley because the battery has died.
If so, you replace it and set up the CMOS with the proper values.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

It sounds like from your description it is a jumper issue. Your computer may be looking for the OS on the Primary Master drive. If both are set to Primary Master it can get confused. You can find out if this is the case by taking off the slave HD.
