Im in the process of building a computer and i just noticed the ATA x 100 (4 slots) on my motherboard. My hard drive is a Serial ATA 150. would this cause any problems?
I may be misunderstanding, but if your motherboard only has ATA100 connectors and your disk drive is SATA150, then it will not work on your motherboard. The ATA connector is a wide ribbon cable with 40 (or 80) conductor wires and 40 pins. The SATA connector has a 7 pin connector.
If your hard drive had been ATA133 it would have worked, but at a slower speed.
You can buy a SATA adapter card. But if you purchased the drive new at a local store, I'd suggest that you try to exchange it for an IDE model. Going SATA will not buy you a real speed improvement.
If your motherboard has four ATA100, I guess that your mobo supports processors in the range of 2 gigs. The ATA100 will not be the limiting factor in your machine.
