Hello,

I'm trying to connect an IDE hard disk and a DVD RAM drive to the same IDE-channel on my PC. However, when started up, my PC (XP Pro) is unable to recognize my hard disk.

I think that I may have configured the drives wrongfully; right now I have the hard drive as master and the DVD as slave on the IDE channel. Should it be the other way around? Or am I wrong i a different way?

Thanks in advance.

Bobo72,

Make sure the cable is oriented correctly, with the longer spacing between connectors end connected to the mobo.

Also insure that the master jumpered HD is connected to the end connector and not the middle. The middle connector is the slave location.

Hope This Helps

When connecting items to the IDE connector you have 3 choice on how to do it.
1) you use a 80 wire connector and set the pins for Cable select.
2) you use a 40 wire connector and set the pins to Master (harddrive) and DVD (slave)
3) you use 80 wire connector and set the pins to Master (harddrive) and DVD (slave) however this a silly method to use unless you just can not get the cable to connect because of how long it is and where you drives.

Also you must have the cable installed in the connector properly. That being does you cable have a key on it? If not they you have to determine which is the pin # 1 position.

Look at what you have and report back with that information.
