I have just installed a slave drive with 13Gb on it. It is only formatting to 8Gb.

Is this because my BIOS cannot recognize anything above 8Gb??? And if so can I use Partition Magic or similar to allow the remaining 5Gb to be seen.

Any other alternatives???

use fdisk and create an extended partition, then create logical drives.
If it dowsn't work then you have BIOS limitations. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Just for interest's sake, I once partitioned and got the 8Gb problem. I tried it again exactly as before and the second time it worked O.K. I've no explanation I'm afraid..... My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

The 8G limitation IS indeed your problem. Check with your motherboard manufacture for BIOS updates.
If they do not have one, check with the HD Mfg. I know for sure that Westeren Digital provides a program called EZ-Bios which overrides the 8Gig limit before getting in to Windows.
In FDISK you will only see an 8 GIG piece but in Windows it will all be there.
