I am getting an error type 40 with data 1 = 83 indicating a fatal error on drive 3. How do identify which drive is drive 3? When I do a DSKMAP from the Octel it shows
Shelf B slot 3 System 1 ID:S1 Active
Shelf B slot 4 System 2 ID:S2 Active

Shelf C slot 1 Voice 1 ID: V1 Active
Shelf C slot 2 Voice 2 ID: V2 Active
Shelf C slot 3 Voice 3 ID: Empty
Shelf C slot 4 Voice 4 ID: Empty

If you see the OCTEL 300 from the front side, you have 2 shelves with harddisks.

Upper harddisk shelf:
B3 (middle left) and B4 (middle right) are system disks (and voice).
B1 and B2 are not installed.
B2 would be your Works application.

Lower harddisk shelf:
C1 to C4 are here voice harddisks instaled from left to right.

So you dirve with a fatal fault must be the B3.(Shelf B slot 3 System 1 ID:S1 Active).
Please post the @L H.

Try a @DEX 1 and post the result.
(This command shows the bad sectors)

Thanks doktor, the L H is below. Can I do the DEX 1 test durning the day or can it cause more problems ?

I normally do the DEX 1 in the late afternoon, and just leave the terminal logged on. Then I get the result in the morning.
The printout of the DEX 1 should be "000000" if the sector is OK, otherwise numbers will be in the printout "000044".
The first sector is the boot sector.
A printout is made for all disks.

Here is the explanation for HW error type #40:

40. Non-Media Disk Error

DATA-1 = DRIVE ID AND SEVERITY INDICATION
01 = NON-FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 1
02 = NON-FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 2
03 = NON-FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 3
04 = NON-FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 4
05 = NON-FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 5
06 = NON-FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 6

81 = FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 1
82 = FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 2
83 = FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 3***** THIS ONE!!!
84 = FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 4
85 = FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 5
86 = FATAL ERROR, DRIVE 6

DATA-2 = SCSI SENSE KEY
DATA-3 = SCSI SENSE CODE
DATA-4 = NOT USED

Please post the .L SLOT also.
(It is strange that SLOT=13 is reported, maybe because it is the VCU??)

Pretty big system with 32 ports to the PBX, 4 faxport and LAN board. I guess that the VCU (harddisk controller) is placed on SLOT=13.
