Windows XP Home. Had the BlasterWorm yesterday and was able to remove it, install the patch, but also had dcom.exe and tftp running in startup. When I took them off the startup, machine ran OK....until today when I said "ok" to install the latest windows updates. They didn't install properly and now when my systems starts, I see the "welcome" and then it comes to my desktop, only it is just my wallpaper and nothing else.

I tried last known good configuration but it did the same thing. The System Restore had been off since the Blaster.

Suggestions on this? And also in my start in MSCONF it still shows msblast.exe, even though it has all bee removed from registry etc. How do you get things out of the startup configuration?

Thanks!

Sounds like to me you have not removed the virus completely. I have cleaned about 200 computers since yesterday that was infected and all I used was Stinger from Mcafee at this link and all was well. Did you go through all the steps that is listed on how to remove the virus also. Hope the stinger helps.

I believe I did remove the virus completely. Ran the removal tool and it didn't find the Blaster Worm.

I think the only thing I can do is winstall Windows ontop of itself and reinstall the updates, but if any of you gurus have other ideas.....please.
