Hanging on Applying computer settings !!!

hi
sbs 2003. all updates on etc. it hangs for ever on applying computer settings. Boots fine in safe mode. i disabled the exchange services in safe mode and it boots fine normally then. i cant start the exchange services though. i did a dcpromo on it to change the domain settings earlier. any ideas what is causing this

I have the same problem with a couple of workstations at our office. Let me know if you find a solution.

Just out of curiosity, is it ONLY pointing to itself for DNS? It should be. Workstations should ONLY be pointing to the SBS box as well.

its pointing to itself and an isp dsn for internet

Well, it shouldn't point to anything other than itself. If itself is listed as the first DNS server, then this likely isn't the problem, but you should remove the ISP DNS server.

Ah - just re-read the original. If you dcpromo a server running Exchange, exchange is permanently hosed. Known issue. You can't demote or promote an Exchange server.

Not from what I've seen. But you'd need to call PSS about that. My understanding is it's not fixable without rebuilding the entire server.
