Sounds like you have a managed switch on the network tagging vlans. The unmanaged switches can't deal with it and your phones are going to discover.
If it's an avaya switch, replace the unmanaged switches with managed switches.

try a new phone 
or switch it with a working one (default both) to see if it IS the port or the phone
