Handset Upgrade/Backup Protocols

We have an estate of 4610SW and 4622SW IP Phones. They currently use a TFTP server to get firmware updates and FTP to upload/download configurations.

Can we use SFTP for either of these functions? Or is there another more secure approach?

I believe you can use HTTP as well. I use this server as it's a TFTP/HTTP/HTTPS server. Works well for both 46XX and 96XX phones.
