hair lose and arcserve media errors

I have been losing my hair over this one. I have been using arcserve for years, started with AS6 and we are now on AS11.5 sp4.
this is on a fairly new machine although running windows 2000 server SP4.
we use a quantum dlt vs160.
everything worked fine for months and recently have been having media write errors and unsucessful backups occasionally but have been getting progressively worse over the past month until now we can't get a single backup done, they all fail.
I have the tape drive disabled in the control panel and removeable storage service turned off.
I have replaced the tape drive unit, for the same unit brand new, new scsi card, adaptec 29160, new ribbon cable and terminator, new tapes(quantum brand) and still having failed backups.
the current error is:
Unable to write to media. (MEDIA=DAILY [S/N: ], EC=UNRECOVERABLE DATA ERROR)

again, I have installed a brand new tape drive, new scsi card, new ribbon cable and new tapes.

another thing I just remembered is the tape unit has the cleaning light flashing alot lately too, amost after every backup attempt.

I really need some help, and some hair.....thanks, in advance.

Turns out the tape we used for the initiate backup with all the new components was bad. So everythgin is good now.
