Hello,

We will be implementing HACMP later this year but at this point I have no experience with it.

I am helping a friend with the migration of several AIX 5.3 boxes from an old Symmetrix array to a new one. I was looking at lsvg output that was sent to me from two of the boxes below.

Server2
VOLUME GROUP: isdvg VG IDENTIFIER: 00c031de00004c00000001161c0f0de1
VG STATE: active PP SIZE: 64 megabyte(s)
VG PERMISSION: passive-only TOTAL PPs: 3248 (207872 megabytes)
MAX LVs: 256 FREE PPs: 46 (2944 megabytes)
LVs: 5 USED PPs: 3202 (204928 megabytes)
OPEN LVs: 0 QUORUM: 5
TOTAL PVs: 8 VG DESCRIPTORS: 8
STALE PVs: 0 STALE PPs: 0
ACTIVE PVs: 8 AUTO ON: no
Concurrent: Enhanced-Capable Auto-Concurrent: Disabled
VG Mode: Concurrent
Node ID: 2 Active Nodes: 1
MAX PPs per VG: 32512
MAX PPs per PV: 1016 MAX PVs: 32
LTG size (Dynamic): 256 kilobyte(s) AUTO SYNC: no
HOT SPARE: no BB POLICY: relocatable

Server3
VOLUME GROUP: isdvg VG IDENTIFIER: 00c031de00004c00000001161c0f0de1
VG STATE: active PP SIZE: 64 megabyte(s)
VG PERMISSION: read/write TOTAL PPs: 3248 (207872 megabytes)
MAX LVs: 256 FREE PPs: 46 (2944 megabytes)
LVs: 5 USED PPs: 3202 (204928 megabytes)
OPEN LVs: 5 QUORUM: 5
TOTAL PVs: 8 VG DESCRIPTORS: 8
STALE PVs: 0 STALE PPs: 0
ACTIVE PVs: 8 AUTO ON: no
Concurrent: Enhanced-Capable Auto-Concurrent: Disabled
VG Mode: Concurrent
Node ID: 1 Active Nodes: 2
MAX PPs per VG: 32512
MAX PPs per PV: 1016 MAX PVs: 32
LTG size (Dynamic): 256 kilobyte(s) AUTO SYNC: no
HOT SPARE: no BB POLICY: relocatable

The 2 VGs look nearly indentical. Server2 shows "VG Permission passive-only" while Server3 shows "VG Permission read/write". I'm guessing this means that the VG is in an Active/Passive cluster between these two servers. Does this sound correct?

I'm not familiar with HACMP yet, but I do know Windows/SQL Server clustering. We have a single SQL DB on an Array. Both Windows boxes are zoned and mapped to the SQL DB but only the primary active server "owns" the DB. If the primary fails then the secondary will take ownership. The applications connet to the DB server using a Virtual IP address that stays the same no matter whether the primary or secondary owns the DB.

Is this how hacmp would work with this VG? Will there be any issues while migrating this VG from on array to another using mirrorvg?
