HACMP: Problem with adress takeover...

Hi everybody,

following situation:

A Cluster of 2 RS6000 under HACMP
2 Token Ring adapters per machine (one for standby)
1 Token Ring adapter connected to a ring
1 Token Ring adapter connected to a 8260 IBM Switch
Mac Adress of the active adapter has to be masked for SNA to work correctly

if we perform a swap adapter from the adapter connected to the ring to the adapter connected to the switch everything is working fine. But when we try to switch back it takes extremely long for the adapter at the ring to take over because the switch remembers IP and Mac adress for quite a long time. During that time period the adapter appears twice in our network. Once at the switch (although physically he isn't there anymore) and once in the ring, where the first adapter is trying to takeover.... As soon as the switch erases the adress, the takeover works. But that's too long for us.

Question is: Is there any way to tell the switch not to keep the adresses after we initiate an adapter swap or anything else to speed up the swap ?

Thanks in advance !

Regards
Thomas

Could you use...

arp -d HOSTNAME

to delete the entry from the arp table...?
