Maybe I am being simplistic, but I would like others opinions on the setup of an HACMP environment on LPARS using a VIO server for rootvg and external disk on dedicated fibre channel adapters.

The cluster is simple using one resource group and one application server under that resource group without application monitoring. The only failover is for hardware failure.

This is a mission critical database, however, is using HACMP/LPARs/VIO too complicated for just hardware takeover? Wouldn't there be a less costly way to implement this since the disk is already being shared between two servers?

Thoughts, opinions, advice, etc., on architecture and design.

Thanks.

Are your rootvg on SAN ?
In taht case it will be more easy for high availability without using any clustering

Are you using Power6 technology ?

So, let me get this right, you cluster nodes rootvg is based on SAN, which is presented to the lpars through VIO.

But each cluster lpar has dedicated fibre adapters which are used for san absed application data.

If so, i see no reason why that shouldnt work.

It could be argued that you perhaps you dont need the VIO servers, and just use the dedicated fibre adapters to boot the lpars direct from the san. Are there any other lpars on the systems that do need VIO ?
