Another acquired cluster !!

We currently have a customer cluster that is basically, a live and a standby server.
We are migrating a from an old server into this cluster, so I need to add a new resource group.
I reckon I've got everything sorted bar IP addresses.

I can't seem to get my head around how to add the new service address. Do I just add the IP address (with label) to the hosts file and add a new Service IP Address/Label or is the more ?

Below is the current topology, and thanks is advance for any help.

Node: prod1 - Live; Prod2 - standby

------------

Cluster Name: clusthacmp
Cluster Connection Authentication Mode: Standard
Cluster Message Authentication Mode: None
Cluster Message Encryption: None
Use Persistent Labels for Communication: No
There are 2 node(s) and 2 network(s) defined

NODE prod1:
Network proddhb1
prod1_hdisk3_01 /dev/hdisk3
Network prodeth1
clustprod 137.223.1.40
clustprod_base1 10.135.62.241
clustprod_base2 10.135.63.225

NODE prod2:
Network proddhb1
prod2_hdisk3_01 /dev/hdisk3
Network prodeth1
clustprod 137.223.1.40
clustha_base1 10.135.62.242
clustha_base2 10.135.63.226

Hi

You want to add a new resource group, so you don;t need new IP adresses just create a new resource group fill in with the good information and resynchronise the cluster and all good.

Cheers
Al.

Service IP address should be included in the resource group! I can see that you already have the service IP address from what you've shown above!

Code:
 Service IP Label clustprod

So you are ok i guess! The service IP address won't appear in the netstat -in command unless the cluster is up! So make sure that the cluster (including the resource group) is up so you can see the service IP address in the active node!

Khalid

God it's been a while since I posted this, and thanks for your responses.
Having been off, and getting dragged on to something else :-(
I've only now had chance to get back onto it.

Anyhow, being confused myself I never really posted the right question.

The standby node is to become live, so that prod1 and prod2 can failover to each other. It is prod2 that needs a new IP address assigned. It doesn't have one on the same VLAN as prod1 for service address.

Can this be done outside HACMP ? Then create the relevant resources within HACMP (because it's live cluster downtime will be limited).

thanks again

To my understanding now, you want to add a new resource group and make it active on the standby now right?

Theoratically speaking, yes you can do this while the cluster is up but you better test this on a test environment before going to a production system! I've bever tried it but i know it can be done seamless.

Khalid

thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't have a test environment, and I have to do it 'on the fly' to a degree.

Backups, backups, backups ensure there are backups - I guess !!

I don't think ,and hope not, that you will find any problems! but testing things b4 going to production is always rule number 1 in any production changes!

Regards,
Khalid

Just remember to do every thing from one node and then synchronize from that node to others. Use CSPOC for adding disks to nodes in the cluster.

Khalid
