We are experiencing some issues with HACMP. We just recently went to a 4-port ethernet card on our standby server. When we did some initial testing, and allowed the standby server to take over, it shutdown. Through this very brief description, are there any known issues with a 4-port ethernet card and HACMP? This was not a known issue with the old setup of individual ethernet cards. Thanks in advance to any insight!

What model of RS6000 do you use in cluster?
In my memory, only some small machine (such as B50) can use 4-port adapter.
If you using B50 as a standby server,it may too small to take production server's job.
Then CPU utilization become too very high to trigger DMS(Dead Man Switch).
System will be halt by DMS after very high CPU uasge for a while.
Why DMS halt system?
High CPU usage means system may hang in any time.
So DMS halt system to make standby server takeover for safty.
But if this happen to your standby server, it's a tragedy.

We are using a 7025-F80. We do use a B50 but use Network Dispatcher as our HA environment. So, you are saying using a 4-Port ethernet between our 6F1 and F80 is a problem in a HACMP/ES environment?

I have checked some documents, they said
HACMP 4.5 support
#4951 IBM 4-Port 10/100 Base-Tx Ethernet PCI Adapter (9-Z)
(on 32-bit CPU server,such B50,F50)

But F80 / 6F1 (64-bit CPU server) can only install
#4961 Universal 4-Port 10/100 Base-TX (A-E)
(check back of your adapter, to see 9-Z or A-E on a lable)

So your problem maybe cause by unsupported adapter.
BTW, HACMP 4.4 do not support any 4-port Ethernet adapter.

But I think you still have a chance to correct it,
apply latest PTF of HACMP may solve some bugs and device support problem.
But I can not say it will work. Because It depend on IBM.
If your problem still exist after apply PTFs,
I suggest you add normal ethernet adapter on your server for HACMP.
Your Servers already a build-in 10/100 ethernet adapter,
you just have to buy one adapter per server.

When I design a HACMP cluster,
I always use single port adapter to avoid a adapter failure make all ports fail.
