Apparently someone has hacked into my system through messenger is this possible and how can I guard against it?
I would love to know if this is true

its what you know its somthing else....

"Apparently"?

It sounds unlikely to say the least, did you just get a message pop up on the screen?

No i have had no messages i am working on a lan if this helps in any way. we have good secur1ty symantic web secur1ty.

So why do you believe someone has hacked into your system using the messenger service?

Good security is not based on brand names, you can take the best and set it up completely wrong and there you go ..

Besides, as Grenage already asked, HOW do you know?

THere is a known exploit for the messenger service already in the wild, if i remember right, MS issued a patch recently. Course, most people never downloaded it, and they still haven't gone thru all the services offered on their XP box, and still haven't deactivated everything they don't need.

Is XP secure ?
Blearg... EVERYTHING including the little santa elves are turned on by default... so turn off messenger service or firewall it. In fact, wall off everything you don't need.
