The most sensible Send and Receive Thread settings for GWIA are the default values of 2 and 4. SMTP is a bursty protocol that when working properly should not tie up any thread for long periods of time. The only time I would look at increasing the number of threads is when there is an extremely heavy load on GWIA due to high message traffic.
Note that 420 TCP READ ERRORs and 420 TCP WRITE ERRORs are NOT an indication of the need to increase threads but actually an indication of communication issues.
