Hi

We currently run Groupwise5.5 EP.
We want to look at going to Groupwise 6 for it's extra functionality. Currently our Tree is a bit of an eye sore (hasn't been maintained well in the past), and instead of upgrading the current groupwise system to Groupwise 6 and hence leaving all users and objects etc in the tree, we thought about creating another tree and setting up Groupwise 6 in it. From there, we would test migrating users across to Groupwise 6 from Groupwise 5.5 and if this worked, then would gradually move all users into the new tree.

So, we setup the new server in a new tree and the issue we find ourselves with is this:

We can send mail out, but not receive it in for the users (by the way, haven't moved anyone across yet, found this out by configuring GWIA etc) due to GWIA on the 5.5 system in the other tree containing the MX record.

Is there anyway that anyone knows of, to have GWIA determine if a user is in a certain mailbox in a certain tree and then send it there? Otherwise, we will have to design an upgrade plan and leave everything in the current tree and clean it up. . .

Any Ideas?

You will need to link the two domains.

Make the new domain an External Domain, then setup your link configuration to route mail between the two domains. The GWIA will accept mail for both domains.

OR

I've never used it before, but I think there is also a setting in the GWIA to forward all unknown mail to another SMTP gateway, you can make the second gateway your new GWIA.

OR

DO a partner search on the Novell web site. You will be able to get some experience behind your migration (maybe even fix your current tree). If your tree is wacked and you want to create a new one, it is do able. If it's just a tree used for just Groupwise, then it will be simple. If your a Novell house and and plan to move users from one tree to the new one, and expect access rights to stay the EXACT same, there are special considerations and some pre planning (along with a design for the new NDS tree, DSDesigner is a good app to play with to build a fake tree to see what your plan will look like when completed).
