GW 6.5: French characters garbled when sent to internet email

GroupWise 6.5

We have an office in Montreal and they are using french keyboards and characters in their email. If they send the messages within our company there is not problem but when they send the messages to external (internet) recipients the french characters become garbage and cannot be read. I have been cruising through Novell's sites and have been unsuccessful in figuring out if this is a gwia error and, if so, how it can be resolved (they are using html view for both read and compose in their groupwise client).

Sample Original message:
Mon fils ne va pas à l'école aujourd'hui. Il a joué dehors ce matin. Hier, j'ai réparé les murs de ma salle de bain avec du plâtre. J'ai passé un magnifique Noël à la maison avec mon épouse, mon fils et mes deux chiens. Les pommes que j'ai mangé hier étaient trop mûres. Les lettres accentuées en français semblent créer encore un problème.

Message after delivery to internet email account:
Mon fils ne va pas =.0 l'=.0cole aujourd'hui. Il a jou=.0 dehors ce matin. Hier, j'ai r=.0par=.0 les murs de ma salle de bain avec du pl=.0tre. J'ai pass=.0 un magnifique No=.0l =.0 la maison avec mon =.0pouse, mon fils et mes deux chiens. Les pommes que j'ai mang=.0 hier =.0taient trop m=/0res. Les lettres accentu=.0es en fran=.4ais semblent cr=.0er encore un probl=.0me.

make sure you are using the multi language version of the GWIA.

I have been cruising the Novell site to find information on the multi-language version of the GWIA. Where would I obtain this please (for GroupWise 6.5). Thanks for your prompt reply.

Wouldn't you just download the Multi-version of the GroupWise support pack? There is an English only pack, and a Multi one that is bigger because it has all the other languages in it.

Yes, you are correct about the download (I don't do the installation, I do more of the trouble-shooting/research). An interesting side note, however. I have sent the test message to two different web-enabled accounts and the results differed between the two. Therefore could it not be a problem at the recipient end, that their system is not configured to received messages from the extended character set?
