the motherboard will be asus a8n sli atx with amd dual core 3800+

i am not sure if i can use this equipment on the same motherboard, or would i have to purchase a sata dvd burner in order to be able to use it.

thanks guy's

Should be fine as far as I'm aware. I have heard that the throughput of sata isn't that great anyway. The board has normal ide channels on it so your dvd and cd drive should be fine.

Thank you very much. I will have him buy it then. if anyone else has any info that would be great.

CD's & DVD's are one type of device that transfer data over the PCI Bus or in the case of AMD the on chip handler.

HD's IDE, SATA, or SCSI also transfer data over the same Bus.

Compatibility for data transfer is not by device type but if the mobo has the capability either on board or via an addon card.

Hope this assists in clearing this up

Unless that motherboard supports SATA natively, you will need to add the drive in the BIOS and create an array, even if you only use one drive. There should be no compatibility problems with the IDE drives.

Check if your board supports NCQ and/or SATA II and if it does then I would get a drive that can take advantage of those features. It appears you are assembling a good system and if you add more drives later a larger and faster throughput could be useful.

Also, having ClickConnect cable connectors on the drive and cable will be beneficial.

thanks guy's your advice has been of good help, and WAHNULA i will see if that board supports NCQ or SATA II and will purchase that if it supports it. Also that board supports both IDE and SATA drives, it's a really nice board actually.

THanks for your advice guy's, you have taught me alot

Luis
