Hi, first off, great forum! There is some outstanding information and some very knowledgeable, nice people on here.

Well, I just joined an EDI team a few months ago and was trained, however our lead person just left the company and left me and another inexperienced person to keep the systems going! It’s been an interesting month so far. We’re scrambling for some new people, but in the meantime, I’m putting in the hours to keep things going. So, please forgive me for my lack of knowledge. :)

We have Mercator 6.7 running on Windows 2000 server.

My question/issue: Our production server keeps getting “hung” forcing us to STOP and RESTART it every few days. This seems to help it, but is getting pretty annoying. So, is it normal for Mercator to get hung (CPU on Event Sever gets to 100% when this happens) this often? I want to modify the mercntsv.ini file as suggested on this forum, but where can I find it? Will this help? How can I tell how much data is going though?

Also, ss there a way to set up an email/pager notification when the server gets hung? This would help us get to the problem before I trading partners contact us.

I appreciate you reading this far if you did. Please let me know if there is any other information I can give you.

Thanks!

First you should upgrade to 6.7.1.
The mercator.ini file should be in your software installation folder usually mercator6.7.
Have you checked the Event Server logs to see if there is any entry to say there has been a problem. Also have you checked to see if there have been any GPFs. These will appear in the software installation folder.

Yes, there are GPF files being generated, and there seems to be a definte correlation whith their generation and the sever getting hung.

Where are the event server logs located? I'll get right on that and check to see what's going on. I appreciate the response!

GPFs are caused by conflict over resources such as two maps trying to delete the same file.
The event server logs folder is usually under the installation folder.

Thanks janhes.

Well, I found the .ini file and as of now, they are all set to the default parameters. I would like to modify them.

As of now, we have about 500+ maps/watches and 8000+ files going in and out per day. We also just have one prod server.

What settings could I modify to improve performance and attempt to prevent crashes?

If you look at the contents of the GPF files you may get an indication of the resource conflict.
I have also found the Event Server will gpf if is has received a large number of map failures. This is usually due to memory issues.

I'll interogate the files and see what I can come up with. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Ok, the mercator.ini file is strange....some previous person has gone in there and commented out a lot of paramteres. For instance, the ignoreGPF's line is simply commented out. Will that result in a True or False? What are the ramifications of commenting out things?

Lots of things are commented out by default. The ignoreGPFs doesn't always work anyway - it's supposed to make the map fail rather than the Event Server on resource conflict but I have never found it very successful.
