Hello everyone:

I was hoping that I could seek some advice from forum members on the feasibility/possibility of adding a door phone with a metallic plate to buzz people in. The system is installed in a school, and we'd like to secure the main access door during the entire school day. We'd like to have an external device (either a plain, single line phone in a gang box with a programmed hotline to a calling group or an outdoor call box with "push to talk") which would ring a group of phones in a calling group. Anyone in the calling group would then be able to answer the call and then press a button to release the metallic switch to allow the door to open.

Not sure if this is possible with the system we have, or if we would need to purchase another CO card and additional hardware for the setup to work. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

The Partner door phone that is made by bogen will connect to an analog extension port. You can then utilize the contact closure adjunct to buzz people in. You will also need an electrician to run the proper wire run to the door and install a door unlock system that is triggered by the Partner contact closure adjunct. You then tell the Partner what extensions to ring for the door phone and off you go.

Thanks very much for your reply, Telecomboy. I found the phone and plate, but would you be able to recommend a door unlock system that we could use? I'm not sure what to look for here. Also - I'm guessing that the closure is wired directly to the system, correct? Where on the ACS does that get plugged in? Do we program a feature button to release the contact on the calling group phones?

Thanks for the continued help.

I've always used an electrician for the door unlock essembly so I'm not sure on that. Maybe someone else has a suggestion on that. You will need the Partner ACS Contact Closure (which is a separate small piece of equipment that costs less than $100. There is a contact closure port on the processor that the contact closure device plugs into. Then, you program the groups and when they answer, they press the code to unlock the door and it activates the contact closure. If you search Partner ACS Contact Closure you should find everything you'll need.

For documentation on the Partner™ System & Door Phone, you can download it for free from: support.avaya.com. Here is a link to a video about Door Phone installation: It is very simplistic and does not cover all options. As far as the door release mechanism is concerned, the type you need may be specific to your door type. The is NO "one-size-fits-all" for doors, you might want to check with a locksmith for suggestions for your particular door.
