Can anyone point me in the right direction to get some detailed information and examples of signing docuemnts (workbooks to be exact) using the Certificate Services of Windows 2000.

I am trying to get an Excel workbook template designed that will run various macros, however because of the security setting in Excel users would get a warning and they may disable the macros.

My solution is to sign the workbook with a digital certificate that would be trusted by the users (a large assumption I know) so that this would remove the warning message.

Is this correct, and is there an easy way to provide this?

There should be an executeable in your Office folder called Selfcert.exe. If you run this you can set up your own digital signature which you use to sign your VBA projects (Tools, Digital signature).

Apologies, I didn't make it clear.

I need to sign workbooks to be used across a domain by many users.

I have setup cert services and applied the root ca as one of the Trusted Root Certificate Authorities across the domain, so that all users in the domain should trust this new root ca.

I have then requetsed a "code signing" certificate and used that to sign the workbook. When opening the workbook from this user I get NO macro warning, but when opening the workbook from another user's login I still get the macro warning, albeit a different message, stating that the workbook is signed and I can enable Excel to trust all future work from this source. Is this correct, i.e all users will have to "trust this source" individually in order to prevent warnings when opening macros from me?

Is there no automatic way to accomplish this?
