Hello,
I'm running Red Hat through VMWare but for some reason I cant get it to go into GUI mode. It just boots straight to the command line ?
I have already tried exporting the display but to no avail.....

Thanks in advance,

First, did you install the VMware tools?

If so, then all you have to do is type : startx at the prompt.

Thanks for replying.
Have kicked off VMware tools install but it doesn't really seem to be doing anything ?
Getting "fatal server error, no screens found"
Could it be that I need to probe for my graphics card ?

no, VMware provides a *virtual graphic card*, so with vmware tools is enough, since your physical graphic card is not available for you "virtual" linux, not even another cards (as netowrk card, etc.). tools runs as a service in you virtual box with linux.

Cheers.

KDE can boot to a GUI. I'm not sure if GNOME can.
I think I just read that in the 'Debain GNU/Linux Bible' by Hunger. Maybe it's a Debian thing.
Try loading/installing KDE (dep package is kdm maybe, and not sure what the .rpm is called).

Figured it out.

cd /
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt
cp /mnt/vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz /tmp
umount /dev/cdrom

tar zxf vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz
cd vmware-linux-tools
./install.pl
