>View items< default setting in >Open< window (PS6)

On my computer the >Open< window of PS6 (the same goes for >Save as< and >Open as< but not for >Open recent<) shows the files in >Thumbnails< view as default. I want to make >Details< view to my default. How do I do that?

(This would be somewhat analogue to >Tools : Folders : Options : View tab : Apply to all Folders< in Win XP. But in PS6 I have no Tools button and also the Open window in PS6 is modal).

I no longer have PS6 but in PS7 I know you can:

File > Open then click the ViewMenu Icon to change your selection but It doesn't change the default. I also see no PS preferences covering this problem.

The funny thing is in PS7 my default is Details which leads me to suspect there may be a way to change defaults, I just don't know how.

Hopefully someone else will have a fix.
