Hey everyone. I have the NMC installed on my NetWorker server. My environment has started to grow and someone has mentioned that I should install the GST service elsewhere. How do I go about this?

Do I need to uninstall the NMC from the NetWorker server or can I just install an NMC elsewhere?

What do I do with the gst database?

Is there a procedure I could follow somewhere?

Hello,

I have both server and NMC on the same Aix partition, with no problems.

If you don't uninstall the NMC from your server, you'll have 2 NMC both running, which is unnecessary.

If You're Networker Server is growing that much that You're afraid there whould not be any ressource left for the NMC, You should really think about enlarge the Networker Server himselfe.

As long as the networker Server is able to handle his Drives, his amount of maximum in parallel running savestreams (backup-peak-time) and any other networker job, there is enough ressource left for the NMC.

A first hint of an obviously overloaded networker server -in my opinion- is "networker caused a software connection abort" (or semilar) in daemon.log

If it is a strategic issue to move the NMC, You could install the NMC and -as far as I know the client-pack is requiered as well- on any other host, reached by the networker Server(s)

Keep in mind that the host running the NMC has to be a client (and so occupies a client-ressource) of each server it has to manage.

i.e. if NMC is running on HOST-A
and should manage a networker Server NSRSERVER-1
and a second Networker Server NSRSERVER-2,
HOST-A needs to be configured as a networker client on NSRSERVER-1 and NSRSERVER-2
No matter if You're going to backup HOST-A or not.

So, what are You're symptoms for Youre overloaded server?
