In ACCESS you can create report frames (portions of a report) that can grow/shrink depending on the size of a column's text value (including paragraph breaks).

In IMPROMPTU, this would be a group-item header, where a description could be large or small.

Is there a way to make the group-item header's size dynamic?? The group-item itself is dynamic, but not the size attribute of the group-item header itself.

I can imbed html " <br> " items in a text field and I get
the formatting I desire for a report viewed as an HTML page, but this does not work well when trying to print the
report as a .PDF document.

If you right click on one of the rows in the column and click properties, does it say scan? I think this should automatically resize the whole column (inc. header) depending on the length of the data/column header.

Or am I miles off?!!

Try this:

Col1 Col2 Col3 Col4
01 AK ALASKA Cold
02 AL ALABAMA Warm
03 OH OHIO Medium
04 TX Texas Warm

Groupby Col1, Col2

In report select LAYOUT and select display header for Col1
and Col2.

CTRL-Drag the col3 value into the header area for the Col2.
This will put the State Name in there too....which is OK.

Now, at this point the field for col3 can be "dynamically" sized....BUT...the header area itself (for Col2) is fixed.

Q. What if the State Name description was a fluctuating insize text field and needed more room?? It would be cut-off by the lower border of the header area it is in.
