Not overly familiar with GW but I will be close and personal with it soon.

I have a GW server (don't know what version yet) that retrieves all mail for a domain, sorts through the headers then rejects the users that aren't on the userlist.

Do all users that have a Novell Client License have a GW license?

Is it possible for a user to have GW access without a NCL?

I have a group of users in a remote office that will only need e-mail hosted with GW. What are some options? Buying Novell licenses and GW licenses will not be acceptable.

More info

The GW server is 5.5

In MS Exchange, you can have a mailbox that forwards to a real email address without paying for a license. Is that possible in GW as well?

Hi,

You have as many GroupWise licenses as you have NetWare licenses. That is how I understand it works. When you purchase GroupWise, you don't actually purchase GW Client licenses with it. It's sort of an understanding.

Since the GroupWise client communicates to the server on an IP level (As long as you have your installation configured for Client/Server mode)I don't see why you would need the Novell Client.

Verify that the GroupWise installation is configured for Client/Server mode and try installing the GW client on a PC.

Hello,

I'll try to answer all your questions individually and also give a brief licensing description:

1) Do all users that have a Novell Client License have a GW license?
No, NetWare client licenses do not give you any license rights for GroupWise. None at all.

2) Is it possible for a user to have GW access without a NCL?
Absolutely! There is no tie between GroupWise access and NetWare licenses when operating in Client/Server (TCP/IP) mode.

3) I have a group of users in a remote office that will only need e-mail hosted with GW. What are some options?
a) Use the full GroupWise client.
b) Use GroupWise WebAccess.
c) Use a third-party (even freeware) POP or IMAP client.

4) In MS Exchange, you can have a mailbox that forwards to a real email address without paying for a license. Is that possible in GW as well?
You have to pay for each GroupWise mailbox in use. If you are forwarding to somewhere else, why use GW at all?

LICENSING IN GENERAL:

1) GroupWise has 2 licensing levels. You can pay full price for a full mailbox, or a reduced price for a Remote Only Access mailbox (WebAccess, POP, IMAP).

2) If you have less than 50 users, you can purchase Novell Small Business Suite. It contains NetWare, GroupWise, ZENworks, and BorderManager at a very reasonable price.
