I am trying to migrate a large amount of email from an outlook express account to GW using the GW IMAP/POP3 import utility. It is importing a lot of email, however it is missing a lot of email that is contained in subfolders. It imports a few subfolders, but misses much more than it gets. I have compacted the outlook express account and also created a new identity in outlook express and imported the mail to the new identity hoping it will correct any corruption in the outlook express account. Any ideas on how to complete the migration so that it grabs all of the folders and subfolders from the outlook express account?

Thanks,

That tool you are talking about sucks, and your experience is very typical. Novell has never really done a very good job o catering to the smaller companies, so that tool has always been buggy.

A better tool is this:
It works great.

I did use that tool on a full outlook account previous, the only issue we had was someone had to sit there to click a box related to a security warning so that the migration could continue every 10 minutes. Also I think I would first have to migrate from outlook express to outlook, then to GW. In that previous case it took a long, long time to complete the migration. Do you know a way to turn off the security thing so the migration can run straight through?

Hi, i m doing similar migration - moving mails/contacts from Outlook Express 6 to GroupWise client 7.03. i first import OE's stuffs to MS Outlook 2003. Then import PST file to GW client w/ the following utility

GroupWise 7 Import Utility for Microsoft Outlook B

This way is not straightforward. Anyway, i've successfully move several mail accounts (3-level folder hierarchy, under 2-GB mails).

Thanks, I will give this tool a try. Although I have a couple users who have email stores in excess of 2 GB.

I'm not aware of the issues you mention, but to me it is a matter of a) the novell tool didn't work or b) the tool works with a few warnings along the way.. I'd go b anyday.

I am currently using the formativ migration tool for outlook that Marv had recommended. It is working so far, albeit very slowly. I did find another tool from a link the in pdf file with the migration tool for a program called Click Yes Express to deal with the anooying pop up warning built into outlook 2003. Here is the link if anyone needs it.
By the way, it is not just a couple warnings, it is every 10 minutes and this particular migration as another with a large .pst file (> 2GB) takes multiple hours to complete. I will post again just to let everyone know if this worked for me.

Thanks for the suggestions & help,

Gotta love outlook and their humongous PST files. Just getting them off the workstation and onto a centralized and distributed email system is a huge step forward.

OK, thanks for all the help. Looks like it worked for the most part. It looks like it may have lost some email during the dual conversion process, but still got about 98.5% of the email. What I ended up doing in the end was the following:

Migrate email from outlook express to outlook 2003, then migrate email from outlook 2003 to groupwise 7.03, then archive email. Then we change the FID using the FID editor and renamed the archive to the new name using the new FID. Then opening the email account online, unarchiving the email and then caching the account all over again. (Had to use the archive process as the user could not be without use of their laptop for the amount time I needed).

Again Thanks for all the help guys,

RBest
