We have a user within our company with a strange problem. Email system is groupwise 6.0.1. This only happens when she sends out emails externally (within our domain it is fine.) When she sends an email, the recipient gets it but it has someone else's name as the sender, and apparently this person is the person that sent the email, two forwards prior. We have scanned her pc for virus but nothing show up. Any suggestions?

Check the GWIA config file for the /FLATFWD switch. If flat forward is enabled and the user forwards an email without adding any text of her own, the forward will appear to have come from the previous sender.

This is a useful feature if you have users which do not check their GroupWise account, but instead have all their mail forwarded (using a rule) to a different account. This feature then enables them to reply to the original sender without having to go through extra steps.

If flat forward is enabled, you can do one of two things. You can removed the flat forward switch and restart the GWIA. The problem with this is that you may have users which "depend" on this feature being enabled. The other option is to have your user add some text (like "see attachment") to the email before she forwards it. This will cause the system to set the "from" field to her instead of the previous sender.

i got the user to enter text before forwarding the email but the same thing happened.

If you haven't resolved this yet, check the Gateway Aliases on your GWIA.
