Groupwise installed on a PC without Novell Client (Windows Client for NetWare only).

Everything seems normal intill the user tries to compose a message. Then GroupWise crashes.

Any suggestions?

What version of GW are you running and what do you mean by crashes? Does the client lockup or is there an error code/description returned when it fails?
Later!

Thanks for the response!

I won't see this user until tomorrow. I'll post more details then.

I had the opportunity to experience this myself, this morning.
The client is GroupWise 6.5.1
The error message is the generic: "NetWare GroupWise Client has encountered a problem, and needs to shut down"

I did notice though, that after this happens, Outlook (2003) has difficulty starting.
GroupWise will start again with no problems, but will crash reliably when attempting to create a new message.

This happens with, and without, Outlook open.

Oh, yeah, you did install Windows Messaging, right?

Thanks guys!

Windows messaging is installed, will uninstall, etc. on Monday.

Uninstalled, ran groupwise cleaning agent, reinstalled - no change.

Upon further investigation, i find there are several ways to bring about the crash: trying to create a new message, trying to create a new appointment, and trying to change the security settings, are just three that I can remember.

Any other ideas?

You don't actually need a Netware client of any kind if all you're doing with it is accessing GroupWise. Try taking out the Windows client for NW.

Thanks for the response.

So far, I've tried using the Windows client for NetWare, and the Novell client. Tomorrow morning (the next time I'm at that location) I'll remove the Windows client for NetWare.

I've tried this groupwise account from another PC with no difficulties whatsoever. The problem seems confined to this PC (laptop).

OK, removed windows client for NetWare.
Uninstalled GroupWise, ran GWClean, reinstalled GroupWise (again) with no change.

How can I uninstall (& reinstall) Windows messaging?

Is this an Outlook 2003 thing?
