We have about 30 seats and about once a week Groupwise fails. It tends to be a monday after servers have been sitting over the weekend. All other network connections work, internet access, network drives and such. So it's specific to groupwise.

This has been going on for months now. The first thing that is done is the servers are rebooted. This works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't work the issues seem to change from week to week, like reseting user profiles to archiving email.

Any clue as to why this keeps happening? Has anyone else had to deal with this kind of problem? We do have current virus checkers, & sheilds running.

Also as a side note after the servers have been reset the win NT 4.0 machines have to sit powered down for 15 minutes or more. If they are powered up in less then this time they will not reg. the server reset and groupwise still won't work. (Might be related or it might not.)

Without having a lot more information, it sounds like you may have a communications issue instead of a GroupWise issue.

What exactly do you see when the system is not working? Any errors? Any other symptoms?

I'd agree about the communications issue except it only happens with groupwise. All other server funtions work perfectly fine, including internet browsing.

Thats the killer there are no error messages except it after it timing out to connect with groupwise mailbox it gives up and ask for remote mail setup.

I'd give more info. but there really isn't much to give. We do have assigned IP address instead of auto we us gw5.5

We have even had outside service come in and look at it. But pretty much do the same thing, rebuild, reboot and it usually works again for a week sometimes 2. Can not find anything oviously wrong with setup or program.

If the problem is right at the initial connection (spinning globe), then you'll want to take a look at the POA itself while the problem is happening.

What do you see for the "Requests Pending" and "Users Timed Out" values?

If that does not lead to anything, then the next step would be to capture a few packets on the network and see where things are dying. Either:

1) The requests from the client never reach the POA
2) The resposnes from the POA never reach the client
3) The POA is too busy to respond to the client
