I am able to open my E-mail and read text messages, but I cannot open the attachments that come with the original message.
When I double click on an attachment Groupwise stops responding,(twirling hour glass)and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get out of it.
I have tried all of the viewing options available and it causes the program (Groupwise)to stop responding.
I can still move the cursor but cannot do anything else unless I ctrl-alt-delete first.
I have tried to save and open the attachments from a different location and groupwise will stop responding when I try this.I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get out of it.
I have removed,cleaned groupwise and re-installed it .(ver5.5),added 128mb more system memory.
The attachments that I can't open include excel, word, and attachments with graphics attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance

Hi cobitech ~

There can be a few reasons for this, but more than likely it has to do with the PC display settings.

Is this only happening on 1 PC?
If so, before GroupWise loads, change your display to your basic "HighColor (16 bit)" and settings with 1024 x 768. I've seen where someone has changed it to "TrueColor (32 bit)" and everything starts whacking-up! Or, if the same occurs with "HighColor (16 bit)" go one step further to "256 Colors." The main goal with these steps is to rule out your video drivers/display drivers as the problem. Also, ensure you have the proper drivers for your monitor (not the default 'Plug n Play' driver).

Another thing to try is log onto another PC and access your GroupWise mail from there. If everything loads correctly, more than likely it's only 1 PC with the problem. If this is not the case, and every PC in your company is doing the same thing, it may be a bigger issue with IMAPI/POA/MTA loads, etc....

By the way, what is the PC Win2K, Xp, 9x? Also, what version of MS Office is loaded on that PC? Some other issues are known to exist with Office97 attachments.

Good Luck. Lets us know the outcome.

Hi michigan,

I tried changing the display settings and resolution settings with no effect.
I am running windows 98SE with office97 ver.8.0.3512.
I can log on from another pc and access my e-mail with no problems,so I know that it is just this pc that is having problems.
I updated the video card drivers with no luck.
Still no response when I try to open attachments(twirling hour glass and have to ctrl-alt-delete to get out of it.
Leaning toward your last suggestion of problems with office97.

Thanks for your help

Hi again cobitech ~

I think you've narrowed it down to the one PC. I'm assuming the 'other' PC that opens the attachments correctly also has Office 97 too. Originally, when you double-clicked the attachment, would it load in the viewer or open the program?

I've seen that viewer whack some things up. I always suggest to my users they open with the program.

When you installed the client, did you remember to uncheck the boxes next to each of the MS Office programs? Many times, if those boxes are selected (more specifically the WORD one) things will not work correctly.

I would try the following:

First - Scan for viruses. I know it seems simple, but ya never know. If nothing is found, I would (again) uninstall the client. Use the GWCleaning agent to remove registry settings. Search for any trace of \Novell\GroupWise on your C:\ drive and remove the GW directory if found. ((Only the GroupWise directory))

Reinstall MS Office right over top of your existing version. It should overwrite each *.dll and anything that may have been corrupt. Next, open each of the Office programs at least twice before installing the GWClient again. This way, your PC will have built the normal.dot files for each reference.

Reinstall the GWClient, set @ 350, and bake for one hour.

:)

Good Luck

Michigan,

I tried all the above, cleaned Groupwise, ran Anti-virus,re-installed Office97, and re-installed Groupwise and it still did not fix the problem.

The problem was a bad Network card.

Thanks for the suggestions, they helped find the problem.
