Hi.

Just wondered if it was possible to do the following:

We have a MS Word 2K document (staff phone list) that I would like all GW users to have access to (Read Only/Print rights). Is it possible to just place a pointer/shortcut in a library to point to the document on the network? This would negate having to have more than one copy floating around that would have to be updated.

TIA and hope that this even made sense...

This can be done using the features of document managment. You can make the doc read only, and naturly if you can open a Word doc, you can print it. Also, if you can open it, a user can save it under a new name as a new document, and there isn't much you can do to stop it. You can easily clean it up because it will be easy to see what doc is the original, and what is a new doc.

One way I can think of to acomplish your goal is to use a web enabled product. NetWare 6 has "Web Access" that has an address book gadget in it, this same gadget is also in Novell Portal services . You can also use a keen little toy named Novell eGuide than can also display pictures of staff along with their contact information.

If you don't already have NetWare 6, then eGuide may be your best investment on a web service.

There are also some kewl products from 3rd party Brent Schmidt CNE,Network + [atom]
