We are investigating upgrading our current GroupWise 4.x to GroupWise 6.x. We have some issues with the current version, that I'd like to know if they have been addressed in version 6.

1. We have a Public Group in our current e-mail environment called Everyone. And, of course, everyone is a member of that group. We use the group for making announcements to the general public. However, we cannot restrict who has the ability to send mail to this public group. So as a result, the group is highly over used and in some cases misused. Does GW 6 have the abiltiy to restrict access to its groups?

2. We use an SMTP gateway to send out external mail. Many of our partners and affiliates are on their own e-mail systems, so in order to e-mail them we send out mail via the Internet. However, there is no way that I have found to create a Public Group of Internet e-mail addresses. Does GW 6 give you the ability to create groups that contain Internet e-mail addresses?

3. A problem we have with the current 4.x GW, is that when an account is deleted, the user's e-mail address is still listed on several external mailing lists. What happens, is GW tries to deliver the Internet mail to the account, but can't because it no longer exists. So as a result, the problem area for the SMTP gateway, gets flooded with problem messages that could not be delivered to that user. Does GW 6 handle this situation better?

Thank you,

Hopefully some help to the above.

1. No. If the group is available then anyone can send to it.

2. You can do this in NDS etc. No problem.

3. The internet agent on GW6 will not accept failed emails so it bounces them rather than storing.

I would def say move to 6. IIt will be a fairly big upgrade from 4 but it is straight forward and well worth the work. Lee Smith
