Is anyone running GroupWise 6.5 yet? We may be upgrading soon from 6.0 and I would like your comments, good OR bad!! I'm especially interested in the filtering and junk mail features Novell has added.
GroupWise 6.5 is a great upgrade. All the new features are useful and robust. The product is very stable...running for over 3 months now without any down time.
The new anti-spam features work well. GWIA supports open relay black lists so that in itself will cut out a great deal of junk. What does get through can then be handled by the Junk and Block Lists at the client. Very easy for the client to keep these lists updated as new junk comes in...a few clicks and the sender is in the Junk List.
The Instant Messaging Component did not make it in to the released product but it is in beta and should be available fairly soon.
We just updated to GW6.5. I have been adding all my spam onto the junk mail list. So far things seems a lot better as far as spam is concerned.
We upgraded from 5.2. The user interface is much better. The added features are sweet, as far as a user is concerned. The upgrade did not go as flawlessly as the Novell experts said it would, but they have been here for onsight support since we upgraded.
We are still trying to get the news reader portion to work so we can drop Outlook Express!
What about Guinevere and Spam Assassin? That's what we're running now on GW5.5, and we're on the heels of a GW6.5 upgrade.
I've had such good performance from the 2 solutions together, I hesitate to use anything else. Aside from a few very commercial mailing lists, we have had zero false positives, and few spam which are not recognized as such.
The Junk Mail Folder feature is terrific in 6.5! The best feature Novell has added.
No matter what you're running as a spam filter, something is going to find a way to get through that you don't want. With the added Junk Mail handling feature, each client is allowed choices of how they want to handle unwanted (internet) messages at either the address or domain level. Our users love it!
