Using Groupwise 5, whenever anyone sends me an email, as soon as I open it, it generates an email back to the person to tell them that the message has been opened. Below is the message I get:

"The message that you sent was opened by the following:

Information about your message:

I have gone through all the options in Gwise and none of them change this. PLease help! thanks

It sounds like you've got a rule set on your client. Have you looked over your rules?

There are a bunch of settings for this. Go to TOOLS-->OPTIONS-->SEND and look at the MAIL tab.
How is this set?

Return notification should be set to "none" and "none" for 'when opened' and 'when deleted'.

ps: gw5 is no longer supported - might be a good time to look at gw6.5 or gw7 which have a lot of nice new features..

Im just the tech support on this matter, if it were up to me, we would not be using GW. Thanks for the ideas. I have checked all through the local client settings in the options tab and they are all set to "none." Im thinking it must be something at a higher level becasue other clients on the network do the same thing. Where are the "rules" for the clients? Thanks again

Tools->Rules.

If they do move away from GW your workload will increase dramatically...

There are server settings that will affect all clients as well. I run GW6.5, but it's probably the same as GW5:
Open ConsoleOne, right click your PO. Groupwise Utilities->Client Options. Check the system SEND settings.

thanks lawnboy, I will bet thats where the problems lie. I will run down there later and try that.

Now that I think about it, I dont think they have console one installed. We are talking old school here, small business ripped off by the local tech company and now Im trying to support it. If they dont have console one, can I change those settings in NWadmin? I know they have that all setup. thanks

C1 is installed as part of base Netware, you don't have any choice. If you're running Netware 5.0 or earlier, I think it's ok to manipulate GW with NWAdmin.

If C1 is there it will be on the server hosting GW at SYS:\PUBLIC\mgmt\ConsoleOne\1.2\bin\ConsoleOne.exe
that 1.2 subdir might be a different #.

BTW, never manipulate GW 6 or 6.5 with NWAdmin. (for future reference)

thanks, ill give that a look today and let you know.
