I cannot get the snapins to work for nwadmn32. I've tried reinstalling the software distribution. I've tried reinstalling service packs ( it tells me that the software distribution is the wrong version). I think the enhancement pack is installed, can I get it from there?

You can tell if you have the enhancment pack by the NLM version on the server; 5.5 went different code paths at 5.5.3 (sp3 for 5.5), so the enhancment pack out of the box will have 5.5.3.1 (I think some showed 5.5.3e).

Go up to Novelland download the 5.19f version of NWAdmin.

Place it on your local hard drive (runs faster). Now get your 5.5EP media and copy the entire CD contents to a temp directory. Get the 5.5EP SP5 from Novell and try repatching the software. In v4 you had to apply the service packs in order, but in 5.5 you can go from shipping code to current code with out applying previous patches. Now here the different step, don't use the stupid windows program to apply the patch, use good old DOS. When you decompress the 5.5EP patch file, you get 5 or 6 .RPT files. Just copy the RPT files to the root of the temp directory storing the shipping media files (oh yea, be sure to remove the read only flag on the files, helps to use the Novell copy and copy to a windows resource on your local PC, it will remove the readonly attribute that gets stamped on all CD files that are just copied, not installed. There are also other third party utilities to do this, you'll need them if your workstation is 9x). Anyway, after you copy the RPT files, you also want to copy the PATCH.EXE file to the root of the temp diretory along with the DLL's, if I'm forgetting a file, it will error and tell you ;)

Just execute PATCH FILENAME.RPT and let it patch the files, I find this works much better that the windows program Novell includes in the patch.

Once that is done, go into the ADMIN\PUBLIC directory and copy your GroupWise snapins into your NWAdmin on your local drive. You don't have to use the install utilites.

Remember, 5.19f is the core of NWAdmin, no included snapins. So only core NDS objects will be known, plus GroupWise 5.5EP objects once you copy the snapins over.

Most of the modules are 5.56e. That number confuses me. Wouldn't that mean Enhancement pack 6? There is no 6.
I don't have the original media. What can I do?
I'm going to try the patch suggestion on a previously patched (4?) cd that I found.

If you don't have the media, then get it. Call your local Novell rep and have them burn you a copy (they will if you own GroupWise licenses).

5.56e means you are on GroupWise Enhancment Pack SP 4, pretty current. Don't remember when it came out, but my burn is dated 3/13/02. So your not too far behind in service pack levels.

Service pack 5 changed the version number format (now that I finnaly look at it closer). SP 5 shows version 5.5.7.1, a good plus is that it displays the version number on the MTA and POA screens now.

If you have problems with the patch, I have a prebuilt 5.5EPsp5 CD with all the patches already done and ready to go. Just give me an FTP location to upload an image to and let me know if you want the image in BIN or ISO format.

Same goes for anyone else that reads this thread. If anyone chooses a different delivery method (snail mail, or any other means not done trough the internet) expect to spend some cash (CD's a postage cost money). I will only send this in a single binary image (with a cue file for the BIN naturly). Brent Schmidt CNE, Network +
