This may be a stupid question, but we are setting up a new groupwise email server running 5.5. Thru the mounds of documentation, it talks about gateways. Is this something that should be provided to me by the isp I use like an ip number? or is it something else?
Thanks

Hi,

I assume they are talking about setting up GWIA (GroupWise Internet Gateway).

You will not be able to send Internet mail with some sort of gateway. GroupWise provides the GWIA out of the box.

Hi cmills

The gateway (GWIA) is the 'channel' through which all internet mail is transmitted. This object is where your domain mail record is defined (in accordance with the mail record held by your ISP), and where you can set smtp and pop values.

You can also add basic security at your GWIA, like preventing mail relays and denial of access to specified domains.

Hope that is helpful.

Gateways can be many different things. GWIA (GroupWise Internet Access) is just one of them. GWIA is used to connect a GroupWise system to the Internet. You can also have Fax Gateways, VoiceMail Gateways, etc. to add additional functionality to your system. For instance the customer site that I am at right now has GWIA running and also a API gateway used for a certain fax system I setup. This way each user has a fax number and when the fax comes into the fax system it is transferred directly to their e-mail.

Hope this helps,

- Zych
