Grouping Problems

When I create a query in Access 97 and click on ShowTotals, every field gets the "GroupBy" keyword, but I only want to group on certain fields, not every one. Should I create a query in the SQL window instead or is it possible to do this in the query builder window? For instance, I have a table in SQL 2000 that contains a list of financial transactions for each of our customers. It is possible to have records with duplicate data, but they are legitimate separate transactions. When I query for them, without totals on, I get a list of the customer's first transaction duplicated the same number of times as there are records in the table for that customer. If I set totals on, I get a list of transactions minus the legitimate duplicates.
How do I get around this?

You really SHOULD read something about Ms. Access. Get the Boss to pay for at least ONE book. Figure out how to use the installed HELP file.

Click on the "Group by" row. A standard ComboBox Down Arrowhead will appear. Click on the arrowhead. Read the List.

Sorry that you feel 'slamed'. I WAS giving you " ... a little guidence ... ".

The title block on these forums says " ... Technical Work Forums for Computer Professionals ...". IMHO, if the 'advice ' NEEDS to be to direct you to other resources, then that's the advice I should be giving.

If you are operating as a computer professional in a work environment and are required to experience a lrearning curve (perhaps on a new 'product') then you really DO need at least one desk top reference which you can use to get started.
